Aonghus and Carl first met back in 1969 at a Live Concert Broadcast on RTE Radio from Gormanston Army Camp – a Red Cross sponsored event for Refugee Families from the ‘troubles’ in the North. As teenagers they performed on that bill in two separate bands but established a kinship, friendship and a mutual passion for music and the entertainment world pursuing careers that would diverge and realign some decades later.
Now after 53 years, and a wide and varied career for both, they come together for this exclusive run of 3 nights at the Viking Theatre to share songs and stories from the last 50 years. Back in the 70’s Aonghus was a founding member, guitarist and vocalist with ‘Mushroom’, spawning hits including ‘Devil Among The Tailors’. Meanwhile Carl, under the moniker of ‘Jamie Stone’ recorded 3 award winning albums which produced hits such as ‘Gulliver’ and ‘I Believe in Love’. A 20-year sojourn in America followed which included a newly formed passion for radio. On his return to Ireland in 1999, Carl enjoyed a successful 20-year career on RTE lyric fm, including curating and presenting the critically acclaimed ‘The Blue of the Night’, as well as directing the MA in Songwriting at the Irish World Academy in UL, where he is Emeritus Lecturer. Aonghus rose to the position of Senior Producer/Presenter on RTE Radio and Television with shows like ‘Both Sides Now’, ‘Anything Goes’ and ‘The Lyrics Board’ and established himself as a versatile entertainer and actor. His passion for the ‘green table’ he is a renowned Snooker and Billiards pundit and commentator.
Both are seasoned performers. Their recent recording studio collaboration on ‘A Place in My Heart’, a song written by Carl, to which Aonghus contributes a beautiful guitar accompaniment, brought these old friends together creatively. That spawned their desire to share their collaborative forces in a night of nostalgia, laughter, and music.
